Pictured above are folks who really know how to dress up for a celebration! I loved see colonial period costume made with contemporary flag-themed fabric!
In the little town of Castine, on the coast of Maine, USA, the big event of the summer was the arrival and brief visit of a large wooden ship. This was a replica of the frigate Hermione, which brought General Layfayette from France to help the Americans win their war of independence from Great Britain. July 4 is normally the day for American Independence Day celebrations, but this year in Castine, all attention was on the visit of this ship and its French crew for Bastille Day. The crew sailed the ship across from France and stopped at ports up the east coast. In Castine they were met by several thousand residents and visitors, with only a few attired as colorfully or appropriately as this couple. Here is the ship: you can see how it dwarfs the harbor.
